Don't Be Down In The 4th Quarter!

Hey Job Seekers,

Jessica here. Hoping that my message finds you happy and healthy despite all that 2020 has been throwing our way. We are entering the fourth and FINAL quarter of the year from you-know-where 😣

Let me let you in on a little recruiting secret. If you are putting in applications and getting a lot of turn downs or no calls in the coming weeks and month know this: It's not you, it's them! It is historically more difficult to secure a new role during the last couple months of the year.

Not to say it can't happen, but in November and December budgeting gets a little bit tighter for organizations - in order to meet their bottom line (and I think a little bit of it has to do with budgets for holiday festivities and attempting to pad bonuses a bit too 😉). I have literally worked for companies that have specifically instructed recruiters to put everything, all openings, on hold until the next year - even with candidates in play!

But be not discouraged! I am here to help *cue rescue music* 🦸‍♀️

Here's the thing, that first quarter of 2021 is going to be crucial. Historically, that is when employees have been paid their bonuses, they have had their reviews, and they have seen if they will get an increase in pay for the next year. This typically leads to some level of organic turnover - read: a potential job opening for YOU! Additionally, most organizations get a new budget at the top of the year and are ready to add to staff.

So - what's a job seeker to do?

What do I always say?

"STAY ready so you don't have to GET ready!"

If you are already searching for a new opportunity, it's time to kick up a notch. Make the time to make new connections on LinkedIn, refresh your resume, and, of course, apply, apply, apply! Also, consider speaking with a professional who can help you review your resume, talk through your career goals, give you interview tips - anything to help polish you for your next opportunity.

If you are starting to think about a new opportunity and have your sights on 2021, think about sprucing up your LinkedIn page (this is a good resource), consider having your resume made over by a professional, and perhaps have a conversation with a job search consultant who can point you in the right direction.

So STAY ready so you will BE ready when the right opportunity presents itself - whether that is now or in 2021.
